The Eye Cream Mistakes You Must Avoid For Bright, Smooth Skin

Eye Cream

The eyes give away our age faster than any other part of the face. If you have ever wondered if eye cream is really necessary the answer is an astounding yes- that is, if you want to slow the visible signs of aging. Our skin around the eyes is more delicate and liable to become dry than the remainder of our face, so it is more prone to showing signs of maturing faster, such as wrinkles, skin looseness, and even sun spots.

Why Use Eye Cream?

Can’t I just use regular moisturizer for an eye cream? What’s the difference really? According to Dr. Stacy Chimento, a board-certified dermatologist from Riverchase Dermatology in Miami, eye creams are designed to be thicker than facial creams due to the thinness of skin around the eyes. Not only that, but they tend to contain more oil than facial creams and have active ingredients to address specific issues.

5 Eye Cream Rookie Mistakes

If you are just beginning your eye cream journey or have been using it for an extended period, be aware of the blunders that could hinder your anti-aging objectives. Here are 5 rookie mistakes that are common when addressing the eyes.

  1. Assuming regular moisturizer will cut it: This is the most common mistake when it comes to using a cream for your eyes so it’s worth mentioning again. Unfortunately it’s worth shelling out more cash for a good eye cream.

Kasey Boone, an esthetician and the founder of Glow Skincare LA, states that many of her clients come to her with issues such as wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles around the eyes, yet when asked what they are using to address these issues they often reply that either nothing or only moisturizer is being used. She explains that moisturizer is great for keeping the skin hydrated, but if the intention is to combat the eye area then a specific eye cream is necessary.

  2. Using too much: Have you ever wondered why eye cream containers are so small? The reason for that is because you don’t need a lot of it – in fact, using an excess amount can have a reverse effect.

It is commonly thought that the more products you use, the better the results. However, Dr. Boone suggests that when it comes to the area under your eyes, using less is the way to go. Applying too much product can cause your pores to become blocked, and it can even travel into your eyes and cause irritation. All you need is a pea-sized amount.

  3. Not letting the product do its job: Most people think the more products that you use the more benefits you will get; so they layer them on. Not letting the product have time to absorb before adding something else too quickly will result in your eye cream not really absorbing. Make sure you give each thing a chance to work before adding more, or going to bed because this results in the product rubbing off on your pillow.

  4. Getting too close to the lash line or your eyelids: It’s not advisable to apply eye cream too near the lashes or on the eyelids since it can cause discomfort if it gets into the eyes. According to dermatologists, the product can move on its own when the body temperature rises, so it’s not necessary to put it close to the eyes. Rather, it should be focused on the orbital bone and the area below the eyes.

  5. Getting impatient: You just can’t expect immediate results with a good eye cream; you need a long term commitment. Don’t give up after a few days or even a few weeks. Think of it as going to the gym; you won’t see dramatic changes after just a couple of visits, so the same goes for an eye cream. You need to be patient and consistent to reap the full benefits. Those who take their time and are consistent will eventually succeed in the competition for eye cream.
