Steal These Korean Beauty Tips for Flawless “Glass” Skin
Korean women are known for their flawless skin. It almost looks like they have a permanent filter on. And thanks to Korean skincare we have BB creams, sheet masks, and cushion compacts. These women prefer a no-makeup makeup look thanks to their glowing complexion. Here are tips to achieve their effortless, glassy skin look.
Grab a pimple patch next time you feel a blemish coming on
Sheryll Donerson, an American who lived in South Korea for two years and is the creator of the blog The Wanderlust Project, says that when she taught at a middle school in Korea, her pupils would wear pimple patches to reduce their spots. She personally only wears them overnight, but recommends them to anyone needing a rapid approach to tackling blemishes.
Do a thorough cleanse before applying makeup
Cleansing is the foundation for a radiant complexion. Any oil, dirt, and bacteria left on the face can age the skin, resulting in dark spots and pimples. Therefore, it’s essential to keep the skin clean before adding even a smidge of makeup. Not to mention that without a blank canvas, your makeup won’t look good either.
Add face oil to your foundation to avoid the dry cakey makeup look
If your skin needs a little extra hydration throughout the day, try adding a little face oil into the mix of your foundation. Morgan Stewart, the creator of The Beauty Breakdown blog and video channel, suggests, “For those with dry skin, blending a face oil or serum into your foundation can be beneficial.”
Invest in a more extensive skincare routine
It’s well worth the cost to invest in a good skincare regime for yourself based on your skin’s specific needs. Everyone is different so it’s vital that each product is tailored for the individual. If you don’t know where to start, book an appointment with a dermatologist or esthetician.
Morgan Stewart, a Korean-American and founder of the website The Beauty Breakdown, says layering is the key to a successful skincare routine. He remarks that it may seem intimidating and rather costly at first, but it is worth the effort and expense.
Do tap your skin; don’t rub it
Try a tapping motion when applying skincare products, rather than rubbing them in. Tapping product in is much more gentle on the skin, and allows the product to penetrate better.
Use a product with snail mucin
Snail mucin is a staple product used in Korean skincare. What is it? It’s a slimy secretion produced by snails. Yep, you read that right. Reports suggest that proteins found in snail slime may be advantageous for slowing down the aging process and even reversing sun damage. In an interview with the The New York Times, Matthew Schulman, a plastic surgeon in New York, mentioned that snail slime can’t help with deep wrinkles, but it may improve skin texture and quality.
Go lightweight for dewy skin
Instead of packing on the foundation, opt for a more lightweight look. Try using BB creams instead, or mixing a BB cream with your foundation together to achieve a glow. To top it off, instead of using a sponge or puff to apply setting powder, use a brush to lightly sweep it on.
We hope you learned a new staple for your makeup/skincare routine!
