How to Prevent Wrinkles From Getting Worse in December/January
Winter comes sooner each year it seems, and for many that means a plethora of skin changes. The colder season often brings with it dryer, more sensitive skin. It tends to make the task of tackling anti-aging even more difficult than it already is-particularly if you’re concerned about youthful looking skin. There are a few things you can do to prepare for the colder season. Here’s what we suggest.
Why it’s important to change your skincare routine for each season
Let’s start with the basics. If you have dry skin, you actually have a much higher chance of developing early signs of aging, not to mention it can be an uphill battle once those signs make their home on the face and neck. With the season making the air more dry, one of the first things that happens is our skin retains less moisture. Unfortunately less moisture in the skin means a less youthful looking appearance. We don’t like how that sounds but fear not, there are some simple yet very effective things you can do to prepare for the winter season.
Winter skincare – what you need
- Stay Hydrated: Drink Lots of Water. Hot beverages like coffee and cocoa are tempting in the cold weather, but water is the best way to stay hydrated and keep skin healthy. Coffee, hot chocolate, and excessive alcoholic beverages can cause dehydration making winer skin look older. Try warm water or tea with lemon to opt for a healthier option to warm you up.
- You Still Need to Wear Sunscreen: Even when it’s not sunny outside, winer is not the time to get lazy with your sunscreen. SPF of at least 30 should be applied to the face, neck, ears, hands, and around the eyes. Cloudy dreary skies can still wreak havoc on the skin when it comes to aging. And don’t neglect the lips; make sure you remember to use a lip balm with SPF to keep your pout moisturized.
- Don’t Crank the Heat to High: Doing this can dry out the air and your skin. Bundle up with a few cozy blankets on an extra chili day. Pro tip; A humidifier can help add back some moisture and do wonders for the moisture level in the skin.
- Skip the Long Hot Shower: Lastly, don’t sit in the hot shower for too long. We know, long hot showers tend to feel amazing when it’s cold out. But an extended hot shower can actually dry out the skin more, causing dryer and sensitive skin.
